One Bite at a Time.

Our Online Course is designed for parents and caregivers who want to add variety into their child’s diet. In particular, this course is most appropriate for parents of children that are eating between 15–20 foods; however, most foods consumed fall into one or two food groups. We walk you through our techniques step by step, with our downloadable workbook, alongside video tutorials and one-on-one support via Zoom with our therapists.

Below, you can find more details about our “why” behind this course, details on how to get started, and purchase your course at the bottom of this page.

 bridging          the gap.

For the past 15 years, we have dedicated our time and effort to developing an intensive in person model of service for families of children with severe feeding difficulties. Despite our successes, we recognize that this level of support is not accessible to everyone that needs help. For some families, cost or access to in person treatment prohibits them from getting help. And for others, the challenges they face with their child’s eating, although concerning, do not warrant the need for intensive therapy.

how do you eat an elephant?

(one bite at a time)

While growing up, anytime I was overwhelmed with the enormity of a task, my mother would impart her wisdom with this expression. Instead of wallowing in unhelpful thoughts, she taught me to break a seemingly insurmountable goal into small, manageable steps and focus my energy and attention on completing each step. The sense of accomplishment of completing one step motivated me to keep going and fulfill the next step, until eventually I reached my final goal.

In our work, we recognize that teaching a child to accept new foods is not an easy process. For a parent, this can feel next to impossible. No matter how big the “Elephant”, we also know with consistent use of strategies, a child’s eating can improve. Research and practice have proven so. what to expect.

The strategies outlined in this course focus on a positive, proactive approach that maximizes motivation and minimizes refusal behaviours. The course consists of 4 modules rooted in years of behavioural research and practice. Parents are the primary implementers of the strategies, with intermittent support from highly trained professionals. Hit the button below to access our store.

  • This course is divided into 4 modules. Each module contains a video explanation, video demonstration of strategies, and a supplementary e-workbook, that is sent via email after your purchase.

The objective during each module is to teach you how to introduce new foods to your child. With each module, the foods selected become progressively more challenging.

After you have completed watching each module, your goal will be to put the skills and strategies you’ve learned into practice with your child with the assistance of a consultant.

After completion of watching a module, you will be prompted to get in touch with a consultant from West Coast to schedule a zoom session. A set number of zoom sessions with a West Coast Consultant will be provided during each module. The expectation when taking this course is that you allot 30 minutes a day to practicing new foods with your child.

Each module, including zoom sessions, are available for a limited amount of time to encourage you to practice often and build momentum for the upcoming modules. Once you’ve completed one Module, it’s important that you start the next Module right away so your child is continually being exposed to new foods.
